Job Description

The Laboratory Supervisor is a leadership position, functioning under the guidance of the Laboratory Director, and is responsible for managing daily operations of the clinical laboratory.  Supervisor responsibilities include management of personnel, inventory control, quality assurance, and compliance to safety protocols.   The Laboratory Supervisor serves as a crucial link between the technical work of the lab and the administrative goals of the organization, ensuring that the laboratory operates safely, efficiently, and with a high degree of quality and integrity to deliver best patient care.

Job Duties:

  • Lead day‑to‑day operations for high, moderate, and waived complexity testing.
  • Support and guide laboratory staff, ensuring accuracy, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as a technical resource, troubleshooting issues and maintaining smooth workflow.
  • Partner with the Lab Director and Medical Director on quality, performance, and process improvements.
  • Oversee competency assessments, training, and development of testing personnel.
  • Maintain a safe, compliant work environment and participate in safety event follow‑up.
  • Manage inventory, scheduling support, and other operational needs.
  • Represent the lab in meetings and foster strong communication across clinical teams.

Required:

  • Graduate of a 2-year Associate’s degree in an accredited clinical laboratory scientist or medical laboratory technology training program.
  • Minimum of 4 years of full‑time MLT/MLS experience in a CLIA‑regulated clinical laboratory.
    • Preferred section experience: Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank.
    • Part-time experience will be considered if the total hours are equivalent to four years of full-time work.
  • Certified as an MLT, MLS, CLS, MT by ASCP, AMT or an equivalent accredited agency and in compliance with CLIA 88 personnel standards.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 3 months of hire.

Preferred:

  • Preferred 2 years’ experience in a similar position or lead role.
