Director of Maintenance
Position Summary: Directs and oversees district-wide maintenance, grounds, and custodial services to ensure school facilities are safe, clean, functional, well-maintained, and supportive of teaching and learning
Job Goal: Maintain district facilities and grounds in a condition that promotes safety, cleanliness, efficiency, and readiness for the provision of a "quality student-centered education".
Requirements, Certificates & Licenses:
Associate Degree or higher in an area that will enhance job performance (HVAC, Mechanical Engineering, Plant/Facilities, or other applicable certificates and licenses)
Must have a current driver’s license
Must be able to pass a background check.
Be available to respond to emergencies at night and weekends for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the district’s maintenance, grounds, and custodial operations;
- Plan, assign, and monitor work related to repairs, preventive maintenance, custodial standards, and grounds upkeep;
- Coordinate facility repair, renovation, and improvement work with the Operations Department;
- Help ensure facilities and related work comply with applicable local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and district expectations;
- Develop schedules, priorities, and work-order processes to keep schools operational and ready for daily use;
- Supervise staff performance, training, safety practices, and accountability measures for maintenance, grounds, and custodial personnel;
- Oversee equipment, supplies, vendor coordination, and service needs related to facility upkeep;
- Assist with emergency response, weather-related facility needs, and urgent after-hours maintenance issues;
- Communicate with principals, district leaders, and other departments regarding facility conditions, project status, and operational needs;
- Maintain records, reports, and documentation related to maintenance, inspections, work completion, and department operations;
- Work includes office, school, and field environments;
- Requires site visits, inspections, and occasional response to urgent facility issues;
- May involve exposure to outdoor weather, mechanical systems, and active work sites;
- Facilities, maintenance, custodial, and grounds maintenance;
- Working knowledge of building systems, repair processes, safety practices, and regulatory compliance;
- Ability to organize projects, manage priorities, and communicate effectively with school and district personnel;
- Assist with all new construction and renovation projects; and
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between district sites, if required.
Contract Days:
240 Days Full-time position
Salary to be determined by documented experience, documented skill, and training level.
