Role Overview
The BI Developer & Production Owner is responsible for building and operating high-quality data visualizations and insight products that support executive and operational decision-making. This role owns the end-to-end lifecycle of visualization development and production delivery—ensuring clarity, performance, stability, and adoption.
While Power BI is the primary platform, the role also requires comfort with Lenovo’s broader analytics toolset—including Qlik Sense, SQL, Power Query, and Python—to support dashboard migration, data preparation, and scalable insight delivery. Success in this role also requires strong ability to collaborate across global teams and time zones.
Key Responsibilities
Visualization Development & Iteration
Build, enhance, and maintain executive- and operations-ready dashboards and data visualizations (primarily in Power BI).
Translate business questions into intuitive, reusable insight experiences—continuously iterating based on stakeholder feedback and evolving needs.
Support modernization efforts, including migrating legacy Qlik Sense dashboards into Power BI and improving usability and consistency.
Production Ownership & Release Management
Own production delivery for BI assets, including workspace operations, publishing, access management, and release cadence.
Maintain version control and deployment discipline to ensure timely and reliable updates.
Partner closely with the team lead to coordinate releases aligned with business needs and executive timelines.
Data Modeling, Performance & Stability
Build and optimize data models and semantic logic using DAX and Power Query, supported by SQL and Python as needed for data preparation and transformation.
Troubleshoot refresh, performance, and usability issues; drive continuous improvements to reliability and scalability.
Insight Innovation (AI-Enabled)
Explore and prototype AI-assisted capabilities to enhance insight consumption and productivity (e.g., smart summaries, guided explanations, conversational Q&A/chat experiences, or AI-assisted data preparation/modeling).
Apply a practical experimentation mindset—pilot, evaluate value, and scale what works.
Stakeholder Enablement & Adoption Support
Support stakeholder adoption through lightweight enablement (e.g., quick demos, documentation, “how-to” guidance), and partner with the team lead on broader rollout and communication.
Act as a responsive, user-oriented owner of the dashboard experience.
Core Capabilities
Strong data visualization and BI development skills, with advanced Power BI expertise (DAX, Power Query, data modeling).
Working knowledge of Qlik Sense (including ability to interpret/edit Qlik logic for migration) and strong fundamentals in SQL; Python experience is a plus for automation and data preparation.
Experience owning production BI environments (workspace operations, release management, access control).
User-centric mindset: ability to simplify complexity, improve usability, and build dashboards that people actually rely on.
Comfortable working in a global environment across time zones; strong collaboration and execution discipline.
Benefits
