    Districtwide Secondary Math Instructional Specialist

    The position of a DW Secondary Math Instructional Specialist will be available at East Central ISD for the 2024-2025 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website.     PRIMARY PURPOSE: The primary purpose of the Districtwide Secondary Math Instructional Specialist is to support the alignment of written, taught, and assessed curriculum in ECISD through the writing of curriculum documents/assessments, providing professional development, observation/feedback/coaching, and facilitating district processes for secondary math teachers and leaders.   

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    1. Work directly with teachers teaching grades 6-12 in the classroom providing support for mathematics curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development. 
    2. Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative literacy practices through various activities such as staff meetings, professional development programs, individual discussions, coaching sessions, and demonstration lessons. 
    3. Assist and support teachers with planning and preparation, pacing, teacher collaboration, progress monitoring, data analysis, intervention placement, and strategies for instructing students. 
    4. Provide support and resources for classroom teachers to enable effective differentiation for students who struggle with content and those who require additional interventions. 
    5. Assist in the integration of technology at high levels in collaboration with technical staff and other content specialists.
    6. Work in collaboration with the campus administration staff and central office curriculum staff in order to build instructional capacity in the classroom and advance the learning of all students in the district. 
    7. Provide teachers ongoing, targeted classroom support through daily one-on-one and/or group interactions with teachers. 
    8. Assist teachers with the full and skillful implementation of the mathematics standards utilizing research-based instructional practices and strategies in a focused effort to increase student achievement. 
    9. Consult with and assist individual teachers to interpret, articulate and implement district curriculum.
    10. Write district curriculum documents and assessments. 
    11. Collaborate regularly with the campus administration, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and PK-12 Curriculum Coordinator to plan and discuss implementation plans and identify appropriate resources and support for teachers. 
    12. Attend subject area supervisor’s meetings to network with math specialists/supervisors in other districts.
    13. Seek out and participate in professional development opportunities to expand personal knowledge of mathematics instruction and pedagogy. 
    14. Conduct data analysis and produce possible action steps for improvement at the campus and district level.
    15. Perform other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
    Education/Certification:
    Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred 
    Appropriate Texas Teacher Certificate 
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Superior presentation, writing, and organizational skills 
    Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously 
    Outstanding record as a professional classroom teacher for at least three years 
    Ability to deliver positive, constructive, and honest feedback, both written and verbal 
    Experience with curriculum development and implementation 
    Outstanding knowledge of subject matter and broad knowledge of available resources 
    Comfort and confidence in working with children and adults 
    Creativity, energy, and commitment to excellence 
    Commitment to and passion for teaching students from diverse backgrounds 
    Exceptional interpersonal skills: ability to hold others to high standards while also offering support and maintaining positive relationships 

    EQUIPMENT USED:  Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment 

    WORKING CONDITIONS:  Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent interruptions. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds not to exceed 45 pounds). May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards. Work predominantly inside and exposure to noise; may work outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather, too. Frequent district-wide travel. Protracted and irregular hours of work. Normal office environment.

    SALARY:  Based on the 2024-2025 Classroom Teacher Salary Scale
