Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a n AVP Accounting & Internal Reporting  for our Finance & Control Department to join our team. 

The Accounting specialist shall support the Accounting & Internal Reporting team by taking ownership for the execution of regular accounting and reporting tasks for SMBC Dubai & SMBC ME regional offices in compliance with applicable policies and procedures. This will ensure compliance with accounting principles (SMBC values: Quality and sustainable growth).

Accounting & Reporting – ongoing bookkeeping & accounting, preparation of annual financial statements and coordination of external audit, compliance with accounting standards (IFRS, & JGAAP), maintenance of internal system for financial accounting, financial (non-regulatory) reporting for SMBC Dubai & SMBC ME regional offices.

Facts and Scale

  • Provide daily support to all departments & F&C sections relating to Financial Accounting matters
    Responsible for month end closure for Dubai and ME offices
  • Compilation and preparation of the accounting reports (Month End / Quarter End /Term end reports)
    Support in the preparation of Audited Financial Statements and handling the related annual audit for SMBC Dubai & all SMBC ME offices
  • Support the line manager in implementing adequate polices & procedure within accounting and having appropriate governance
  • Assist various departments within the branch for their queries in relation to accounting of expenses, booking of fixed assets, recording expenses in the appropriate GL and any other adhoc requirements.
  • Ad-hoc support to key projects with significant accounting
  • Responsible for Cost Monitoring, Analysis & Reporting.
  • Responsible for assessment of accounting standards and implementing IFRS accounting standards (including IFRS9 & IFRS 16)
  • Support in compiling financial forecasting for RBP.
  • Support in providing ‘ROI” related information to senior management under different methodologies
  • Independent discussion with business on new products and resolution of problems
  • Maintenance of Relationships with business, within finance and other departments
  • A good team player
  • Ongoing discussions with UK regional team
  • Act as backup for other team members.

Accountablities and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all regular accounting tasks in SMBC Dubai & SMBC ME offices, e.g.: General ledger monitoring, maintenance and control under IFRS & JGAAP
  • Responsible for Month End / Quarter End /Term end reports by ensuring that the same is prepared as per JGAAP for internal & external stakeholders accurately & in a timely manner.
  • High quality understanding of IFRS and accounting principles.
  • Responsible for Cost Monitoring, Analysis & Reporting.
  • Responsible for assessment of accounting standards and implementing IFRS accounting standards (including IFRS9 & IFRS 16)
  • Responsible for month end closure for Dubai and ME offices by ensuring books are closed on a monthly basis after detailed scrutiny, investigation, identification & corrections of any incorrect or unusual booking or movement in the chart of accounts in a complete, accurate & timely manner.
  • Manage polices & procedure within accounting and having appropriate governance
  • Support in various activities related to Internal & external audit
  • Support in New Product review process for F&C
  • Independent discussion with business on new products and resolution of problems
  • Assist various departments within the branch for their queries in relation to accounting of expenses, booking of fixed assets, recording expenses in the appropriate GL and any other adhoc requirements.
    Support in the preparation of Audited Financial Statements and handling the related annual audit for SMBC
  • Dubai & all SMBC ME offices
  • Support in testing & support in oracle system implementation in Dubai & all SMBC ME offices
  • Support in implementing controls to enhance completeness and accuracy of processes in the finance department
  • Competent Contact person for the different departments for all questions arising from the above-mentioned activities
  • Key role in various automation initiative and coordinate with external & internal stakeholders for implementing various automation solution for Accounting & Control within the SMBC ME region.
  • Support in compiling financial forecasting for RBP.
  • Support in providing ‘ROI” related information to senior management under different methodologies.
  • Maintenance of Relationships with business, within finance and other departments
  • A good team player
  • Ongoing discussions with UK regional team

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Solid experience in an accounting / finance role, preferably within a financial institution
  • Strong knowledge in IFRS and JAAP Accounting
  • Educated to bachelors’ level; any professional qualification is considered as a plus
  • Be able to manage complexity
  • Strong numerical skills
  • Expert knowledge in Excel and overall tech-savvy to work with tools like Power BI or CoPilot.
  • Demonstrating and promoting team spirit
  • Be able to work independently
