The Operations Manager leads day-to-day operations for the Wilmington site, ensuring safe, efficient, and scalable execution across order-to-ship processes, production scheduling, inventory management, and fulfillment. Trexel is a newly acquired business within the ENGEL Group, and this role supports the alignment of site operations, reporting, and controls with ENGEL headquarters standards while enabling continued growth.

This position manages a team of approximately 610 employees, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and is fully accountable for site financial performance (P&L), including budgeting, cost control, forecasting, and margin delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of ~610 employees; set clear priorities, goals, and performance expectations.

  • Establish daily and weekly operating rhythms, including tier meetings, KPI reviews, issue escalation, and action tracking.

  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, training requirements, and site standards; promote a strong safety-first culture.

Order Processing & Customer Fulfillment (Order-to-Cash Execution)

  • Own the end-to-end order process, including order entry verification, scheduling, procurement coordination, production execution, shipping, invoicing readiness, and post-ship issue resolution.

  • Improve order accuracy, on-time delivery, lead times, and responsiveness to customer needs.

  • Partner with Sales and Customer Service to prioritize orders, manage backlog, and communicate delivery commitments.

Standardization & Alignment with ENGEL Headquarters

  • Implement and maintain HQ-aligned processes for:

    • Operational controls and reporting cadence

    • Finance and controlling requirements (P&L, cost center discipline, forecasting)

    • Quality management and corrective action systems

    • Inventory controls and governance

  • Prepare and present regular operational and financial performance updates to Trexel and ENGEL leadership.

P&L Ownership & Financial Management

  • Full ownership of site P&L, including revenue execution support, labor and overhead management, COGS drivers, inventory accuracy impacts, and margin improvement.

  • Lead annual budget development; manage monthly forecast updates and variance analysis.

  • Identify and execute cost-reduction initiatives without compromising safety, quality, or delivery.

  • Ensure internal controls for purchasing, inventory, and spend approvals align with corporate expectations.

Continuous Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Drive Lean and continuous improvement initiatives (standard work, waste reduction, flow, 5S, root-cause problem solving).

  • Partner with Engineering and Applications teams to ensure operational readiness for new products and processes.

  • Own vendor performance where relevant (lead times, quality, cost), working with procurement and corporate resources as needed.

Qualifications (Required)

  • 35 years of operations leadership experience within manufacturing, light manufacturing, industrial technology, or related environments.

  • Proven experience managing teams (ideally 6+ direct and/or indirect reports) and building accountability through KPIs.

  • Demonstrated ownership of budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management at the site or business unit level.

  • Strong working knowledge of order management and fulfillment workflows (SAP, inventory, shipping).

  • Ability to standardize processes, implement controls, and operate effectively in a corporate or hybrid reporting structure.

  • Technical background, particularly in equipment assembly, is a plus.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience operating within a multinational corporate structure (matrix reporting).

Work Environment

  • On-site role at the Wilmington, MA facility.

  • Occasional travel to ENGEL sites or customer/vendor locations as needed.
