About the role, Your Impact

Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for an Senior Environmental Scientist in our Water Resources department. We are seeking qualified applicants for our Bannockburn, Crystal Lake, Chicago, Naperville, or Mokena offices.

What your day-to-day will look like

  • Complete natural resources and environmental services for municipal, county, and private clients in:

    • Environmental Assessments/Impact Studies
    • Habitat Restoration/Ecological Restoration
    • Streambank/Floodplain/Wetland Restoration
    • Detention Basin/Rain Garden Design
  • Tasks will include wetland delineation, permitting, and mitigation.
  • Supervise restoration ecologists and engineers working on Streambank Design, Detention Basin Retrofits, and Natura Area Assessments.
  • Knowledge of stormwater best management practice design, streambank stabilization design, and environmental assessments is preferred.
  • Manage/Complete the water resource components of engineering plans and specifications for projects.
  • Identify and submit grant applications.
  • Represent the company in client and agency meetings to resolve questions and to plan and coordinate work.
  • Develop and enhance client relationships and business growth.
  • Work with department managers to develop/maintain department standards and complete peer reviews.

Education/Certification Requirements

  • B.S./B.A. degree in environmental/natural resources field.
  • Certified as a Wetland Scientist in Illinois and/or Wisconsin.

Must-haves, what you will bring

  • 10+ years of experience preferred.
  • Ability to independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities.
  • Work within a Team-first culture that encourages individual development and accomplishment of goals.
  • Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.

Compensation: The base pay range for this role is $100,000 - $130,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
