Position Summary

PrimECS is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Bidding & Estimating Intern to support our Preconstruction team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a wide range of estimating and bidding responsibilities integral to civil construction projects.

You will work closely with experienced estimators and project managers to support the development of accurate, competitive, and well-documented bids and proposals. This role offers a comprehensive exposure to the estimating process, from quantity takeoffs to vendor pricing research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in quantity takeoffs using construction drawings and specifications for concrete, earthwork, utilities, and other heavy civil scopes.
  • Support the preparation of detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor components.
  • Conduct market research and solicit quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to support cost validations and comparisons.
  • Participate in the preparation of bid proposals, including writing narrative sections and organizing bid documents.
  • Help maintain estimating tools and databases, ensuring current unit cost information and historical pricing data are available.
  • Review plans, specifications, and addenda to identify scope, risk areas, and opportunities.
  • Support coordination efforts between internal departments and external partners during the bidding phase.
  • Perform miscellaneous estimating tasks as needed to support the success of the bid.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and project delivery methods.
  • Strong analytical and math skills with an eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, HCSS, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Interest in heavy civil construction and preconstruction processes.
