    Position Title: Executive Director of Academics and Accountability 

    Position Type: Salaried/ Annualized/ Exempt

    Position Hours: Full-time extended workdays, occasional Saturdays, and frequent travel

    Length of Term/Employment: 223 workdays / At-Will

    Reports to: Superintendent

    Location: San Antonio, Texas (District Office)

    Position Mission

    The Executive Director of Academics and Accountability is a critical leadership role responsible for driving academic excellence and ensuring robust accountability across the district. This position provides strategic vision, leadership, and oversight for curriculum, instruction, assessment, special programs, professional development, and all aspects of state and federal accountability reporting. The Executive Director will work collaboratively with campus leaders, district office departments, and external stakeholders to foster a data-driven culture focused on continuous improvement and increasing outcomes for all students. 

     

    Performance Goals:

    • "A" & "B" Accountability Ratings for all schools
    • CCMR Goal- Seniors sustain 100%
    • Math and Reading - K-2 increase students' achievement by 10% and 3+ grades raise STAAR at least 5%  every year.

    Requirements & Qualifications:

    Education:

    • Master's degree in Education, Educational Administration, or a related field, required.
    • Teaching certification (required)
    • Texas Principal or Superintendent Certification (preferred)

     

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years as a campus administrator or District Curriculum experience (required)
    • Minimum of 3 years principal experience (preferred)
    • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience (required)
    • Demonstrated success in improving student academic outcomes

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • In-depth knowledge of state and federal accountability systems and compliance requirements.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proven ability to lead, coach and develop teams in a collaborative environment.
    • Expertise in developing, implementing, and evaluating rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and instructional strategies, including TEKS alignment and best practices for diverse student populations.
    • Exceptional ability to interpret complex data from state (STAAR) and local assessments, analyze trends, and leverage insights for accountability (A-F ratings) and continuous improvement.
    • Proficient with student test data systems. Ability to interpret and use data to drive decision-making.
    • Comprehensive understanding of vetting, evaluating, and managing educational programs (e.g., SPED, Bilingual, GT).
    • Thorough knowledge of budget development, procurement, and school finance for academic initiatives.
    • Excellent leadership, written/verbal communication, and interpersonal skills to inspire collaboration and convey complex information.
    • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, oversee cross functional projects, anticipate needs, and plan strategically.
    • Proficient in educational technology and data management systems.
    • Adaptability and adherence to district culture and core values.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership & Vision

    • Develop, articulate, and implement a compelling academic vision and strategy aligned with the district's mission, goals, and strategic plan.
    • Lead the continuous improvement of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
    • Stay abreast of best practices in education, relevant research, and evolving state and federal regulations to inform decision-making.
    • Facilitate clear and consistent communication regarding academic performance, program initiatives, and accountability measures to all stakeholders, including district leadership, campus administration, teachers, parents, and community members.

    Curriculum & Instruction:

    • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum across all grade levels and subject areas.
    • Ensure the integration of effective instructional strategies that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and deep understanding.
    • Provide guidance and support for differentiated instruction, gifted and talented programs, bilingual education, special education, and other specialized academic programs.

    Assessment & Accountability

    • Lead the design, implementation, and analysis of district-wide assessment systems (formative, interim, summative) to monitor student progress and inform instructional adjustments.
    • Manage and oversee all state and federal accountability reporting requirements, including STAAR, A-F ratings, PEIMS data, and other compliance mandates.
    • Develop and implement data analysis protocols to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement at the student, campus, and district levels.
    • Provide regular, actionable data reports and interpretations to the Superintendent, Board, campus leaders, and other stakeholders.
    • Facilitate the development of campus improvement plans based on accountability data and academic needs.
    • Ensure data integrity and accuracy in all reporting, providing reliable insights for decision-making.
    • Utilize data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement within individual programs and across the district.

    Professional Development

    • Design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive professional development programs for teachers, instructional coaches, and campus leaders focused on improving instructional effectiveness and data utilization.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and growth among all instructional staff.

    Fiscal Management & Resource Allocation

    • Oversee the management of fiscal resources for all assigned academic programs, including budget preparation and directing spending.
    • Collaborate with the Academic Team Directors in the development and management of their respective program budgets, ensuring alignment with district priorities and fiscal responsibility ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support student growth across all three regions.

     

    Compliance & Regulatory Adherence

    • Oversee compliance with state and federal regulations, including but not limited to HB1416, and those specific to special education, bilingual education, and assessment.
    • Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to district policies and procedures related to all academic and operational areas.
    • Oversee the effective implementation and compliance of grants directly supporting academic programs, including the GEAR UP grant, ensuring all objectives are met and funds are utilized appropriately.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
