Position
Title: Principal VOIP Engineer
Base Salary: $97,500
to $152,000 annually DOE

Job Summary
The Principal VoIP Engineer
is a senior member of the Voice Engineering team responsible for architecting,
designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise VoIP solutions. This role
provides technical leadership in the development of scalable, secure, and
highly available voice infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and
alignment with organizational objectives. The Principal VoIP Engineer serves as
a subject matter expert, guiding strategic voice initiatives, supporting
complex deployments, and driving continuous improvement across the voice
environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities listed below are a range of
duties performed by the employee and not intended to reflect all duties

Voice Switching & Network Operations
· Provide support for SIP and TDM based soft
switch translations, facilities and features on the Metaswitch Call Agent and
Media Gateways, Enhanced Application Servers, and SBCs.
· Maintaining and updating LERG daily.
· Extensive experience supporting central office
switching and softswitch platforms, including legacy TDM systems (e.g., Nortel
DMS-100, Lucent 5ESS) and modern VoIP/SIP infrastructures.
Protocol Expertise & Troubleshooting
· Deep expertise in SS7, SIP, PRI, media gateways,
and session border controllers, including trunk provisioning, call routing,
E911, and inter-carrier interconnects.
· Proven ability to troubleshoot end-to-end voice
issues across TDM and IP transport layers, ensuring high availability in
geographically redundant central office environments.
Architecture, Design & Engineering
· Support Product Engineering with systems
architecture planning, system implementation guidelines, and engineering
guidelines.
· Perform lab testing, design, and architecture
work.
· Architect new VoIP products and features.
Product Development & Vendor Coordination
· Coordinate with vendors, analyze appropriate
product offering and develop new products and services for network.
· Test and approval of new product sets.
Operational Support & Project Leadership
· Provide technical assistance and support to
other Service Management teams.
· Assist management with all high priority
projects and prepare technical presentations.
· Provide off-hours, on-call, and weekend coverage
as required.
Other Duties
· Performs
other duties as required to support the business and evolving organization.
Required Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED.
· Bachelor's
Degree in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Minimum
of five (5) years’ experience in a Class 4 or 5 TDM/Soft Switch/Hybrid Central
Office environment such as Metaswitch, BroadSoft, Lucent 5ESS, Nortel DMS, and
GENBAND G6
· Experience
with hosted and cloud-based voice applications and services.
· Experience
with network monitoring, management and troubleshooting with various tools such
as Packet Sniffer utilities, Wireshark and Metaswitch SAS.
· Experience
in designing, implementation, and maintaining secure IP networks.
· Extensive
knowledge of feature delivery in hosted VoIP environment (hosted services, SIP
trunking, PRI trunking via IAD, VoIP CPE, enhanced business features, etc.).
· Extensive
knowledge of VoIP protocols, SIP signaling with emphasis on RTP and SDP,
network QOS, IP routing, Ethernet switching (including 802.11q, 802.11p,
802.3af), and packet tagging mechanisms.
· Ability to interface well with customers (internal and
external).

Work Environment
Work is performed in an office setting with
exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer,
keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work is primarily a
modern office setting.
