POSITION SUMMARY:
The WASH Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities under a funded healthcare project in Gaza. The position ensures the delivery of safe, effective, and sustainable WASH interventions for health facilities and communities, contributing to disease prevention and improved public health outcomes in a complex humanitarian context.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support the development of a WASH program culture that reflects Project HOPE’s humanitarian values, promotes accountability, and ensures high-quality service delivery.
• Provide technical guidance on WASH interventions, including water supply, sanitation systems, solid waste management, and hygiene promotion.
• Support program and operations teams with technical advice on WASH implementation approaches.
• coordinate and collaborate with local authorities, WASH clusters, and partner organizations to support integrated health and WASH responses.
• Contribute to program planning and technical guidance in line with the organizational objectives.
Program Planning & Implementation
• Lead the planning, implementation, and coordination of WASH activities in Gaza in line with project objectives and donor requirements.
• Develop WASH workplans, activity schedules, and staffing plans in coordination with program teams.
• Ensure appropriate water quality monitoring, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion systems are in place.
Provide technical oversight and guidance for WASH assessments, designs, and infrastructure interventions implemented by program teams.
Review and validate technical designs, BoQs, and specifications prepared for WASH infrastructure activities.
•Ensure quality control and compliance with Sphere standards and WASH technical guidelines across all interventions.
• Review and Monitor WASH service delivery indicators and recommend corrective actions as needed.
• Ensure full integration of emergency WASH response procedures into routine program operations.

• Provide the technical inputs for WASH components in proposals, concept notes, and program design.
Technical Oversight, Reporting & Compliance
• Support the implementation of WASH services to ensure compliance with Project HOPE guidelines, donor requirements, and national WASH standards.
• Prepare and submit regular WASH activity reports to the WASH manager and programme team.
• Maintain organized effective systems for beneficiary records, WASH data, and confidentiality.
• Conduct and coordinate the WASH assessments, monitoring visits, and identify operational challenges.
• Support the preparation and coordination of donor monitoring visits and external evaluations related to WASH activities.
• Build capacity of WASH officers, assistant and field team like CHP’s staff through training, mentoring, and supportive supervision.
Staff Management & Development
• Support appropriate staffing levels and technical competencies within the WASH team.
• Support and mentor WASH officers, engineers, and hygiene promoters, setting clear expectations and monitoring performance.
• Assist recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of WASH personnel.
• support staff performance through measurable objectives, continuous feedback, and fair evaluations.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning within the WASH team.
Risk Management & Program Accountability
• Support WASH Manager in applying a risk management approach to WASH programming.
• Identify programmatic and operational risks related to WASH activities and ensure mitigation measures are implemented.
• Ensure infection prevention and control (IPC), safeguarding, and accountability to affected populations are integrated into WASH services.
• Assist in maintaing and regularly update WASH risk registers and incident reporting mechanisms.
• Ensure WASH interventions are impelmented in line with ethical standards and humanitarian principles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Please list by bullet point)
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, CivilEngineering, Environmental engineering, Public Health, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in WASH programming, preferably in humanitarian or emergency settings.
• Strong technical knowledge of water supply systems, sanitation infrastructure, and hygiene promotion approaches.
• Demonstrated experience managing WASH teams and supervising field implementation.
• Experience working with donor-funded projects.
• Strong analytical, reporting, and coordination skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate across departments and cultures.
• Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
