Job Description

SALARY SCHEDULE: Supervisor, compensation commensurate with experience
SUMMARY
Supervise assigned Clinton County RESA-operated programs in the role of school principal, leading day-to-day
operations and providing educational leadership. Ensure compliance with State and Federal special education
regulations, civil rights requirements, and laws related to classroom instruction and accountability, while
promoting continuous improvement of instructional practices and student outcomes. Demonstrate knowledge of
best practices in special education and serve as a resource to support teachers, paraprofessionals, and itinerant

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Ensure policies and procedures are in place for assigned staff, districts, or programs, consistent with state
and federal special education rules and regulations.
● Provide leadership and support for the day-to-day operations for assigned districts, programs, or services.
● Supervise assigned staff, including support with caseload assignments and schedules, matching
professional growth opportunities to staff needs, and providing meaningful feedback on performance
through both formal and informal means.
● Provide, or arrange for the provision of, professional development to address any compliance deficits or
gaps in the implementation of best practices.
● Provide leadership in the implementation of evidence-based instructional practices
● Lead IEP teams in decision-making that honors the provision of FAPE in the LRE.
● Support IEP teams in ensuring best practices in facilitation and development of a high-quality IEP.
● Serve as a collaborative member of the CCRESA Special Education leadership team, as well as the
leadership team of any assigned districts, supporting other leaders and contributing to current initiatives.
● Utilize various platforms for special education processes, data management, and communication.
● Prioritize systems thinking and capacity building as key tenets of the work.
● Facilitate communication and collaborative problem-solving in a professional and respectful manner to

effectively address challenges as they arise.
● Serve as a special education leader for any assigned local districts or, if not directly assigned, consult with
LEA leadership, as needed, on the operation of programs and services.
● Monitor caseloads and provide input on staffing levels.
● Assist in resolving areas of noncompliance within special education programs/services.
● Serve as a point of contact for parents of special education students for any assigned districts, programs,
or services, or parents with general questions or a need for resources.
● Attend REED meetings or IEPs as an active team member, to lend expertise in special education law and
district obligations, to provide meeting facilitation, and/or to resolve conflict.
● Support onboarding and ongoing professional learning for assigned special educators countywide.
● Represent assigned programs and/or districts at State/Regional meetings as assigned.
● Adhere to, enforce, and effectively communicate Board policy, school guidelines, employee handbook,
administrative directives, Master Agreements, and district standards.
● Pursue professional learning opportunities to support the Supervisor in skill acquisition/enhancement
related to the assigned responsibilities.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
● Master's Degree in Special Education
Experience:
● Minimum of 5 years of experience in the candidate’s area of Special Education
● Experience serving as a district representative on IEP teams
● Experience with center-based programs
● Experience working collaboratively with local districts
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
● MDE Administrator Certificate
● MDE Special Education Supervisor Approval, or willingness to obtain Supervisor approval
● One of the following:
○ Possession of a valid Michigan teaching certificate with special education endorsement
○ MDE Certification as a School Psychologist
○ Licensed Michigan Social Worker w/MDE School Social Work approval
○ Licensed Michigan Speech & Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, or Physical
Therapist
Other knowledge, skills and abilities:
● Proficient with web-based programs such as Google Docs, Sheets, & Slides.
● Proficient with Special Education management software.
● A proactive approach to building rapport with both CCRESA and Local District stakeholders.
● Ability to foster ongoing, goal-oriented partnerships with CCRESA and Local District Administrators and
staff.
● Highly organized in management of time and work products/processes.
● Ability to manage large projects independently and in accordance with deadlines.
● Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in writing and orally.
● Ability to maintain confidentiality.
● Fluent in the English language in both written and verbal form.
● Interpersonal skills – cooperative, courteous, flexible, good-natured, and focused on serving as a resource
and support.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with faculty, staff, and parents
as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Reasonable

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Normal office and educational environment. It is also anticipated that some stress will be associated with this
position primarily due to deadlines and irregular workflow. It is necessary that the individual have the capacity to

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
Employee is expected to work 5 days per week, 7.5 hours per day for a schedule of up to 220 days. Occasional
evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
TRAVEL:
There is a moderate amount of travel associated with this position. The employee will be required to travel to
assigned locations, training/meeting sites, regional meetings, and state meetings/events.
