JOB TITLE: Off Campus Student Life Student Intern
LOCATION(S): St. Paul
PAY RATE: $16.50/hour
HOURS: 4-12/week
Job Summary:
At the University of St. Thomas, undergraduate students have diverse living experiences that shape how they engage with campus. Some first- and second-year students live at home and commute to campus as they begin their college journey, while many third-year students and beyond live off-campus in neighborhoods surrounding the St. Paul campus. These student populations have distinct needs and benefit from intentional outreach, connection, and education to support their success and sense of belonging.
Off-Campus Student Life (OCSL) interns support students across these living experiences, with a strong emphasis on engaging first- and second-year commuting students as they navigate their early college years. Commuter students may face challenges related to building community, accessing campus resources, and balancing academic, family, and work responsibilities. OCSL interns help bridge these gaps by creating welcoming entry points to campus life through outreach, programming, and relationship-building.
In addition, OCSL interns support upper-division students who live off-campus in nearby neighborhoods. These “neighborhood students” have unique needs related to independent living, understanding city and rental laws, and being responsible community members. Interns assist with educational initiatives and outreach that build awareness of neighborhood expectations while fostering positive relationships between students and the surrounding community.
Many students served by Off-Campus Student Life are first-generation college students. OCSL interns contribute to inclusive, student-centered programming and resources that support students’ academic success, personal growth, and engagement throughout their time at St. Thomas. Off-Campus Student Life operates within the Dean of Students Office at the University of St. Thomas.
