Position Summary: Advanced Materials and Technology Engineer
Location: Nashua, NH
Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help to enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEM’s globally. Our global headquarters are located in Nashua, NH and we have design, sales and manufacturing locations globally. We are currently seeking an Advanced Materials and Technology (AMT) Engineer to join the team. The AMT Engineer will be responsible for the development, evaluation and implementation of high temperature adhesives for next generation interconnect applications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify and evaluate adhesive systems for cable constructions with high temperature performance
- Screen adhesive chemistries (silicone, acrylic, epoxy, polyimide, etc.) for thermal and mechanical resistance
- Assess different adhesive deposition applications like gravure coating and spray coating for thin deposition of adhesives.
- Assess compatibility of adhesives with current manufacturing processes used in current cable assembly, including tape wrapping, lamination, and inline application methods
- Support material characterization, reliability testing, and performance benchmarking of cable components utilizing adhesives.
- Engage in early-stage concept development to capture design needs, customer requirements, and cost-reduction opportunities.
- Work with suppliers to source materials, review CTFs and drive custom formulations if needed
- Document technical findings, prepare reports, and communicate recommendations to stakeholders in a detailed manner.
- Support technology transfer and scale-up of validated processes to manufacturing teams.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s or Ph.D.’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or Plastics Engineering
- 5+ years experience in thin adhesives or coatings deposition (tapes, wraps, foil experience preferred)
- Strong knowledge of:
- High-temperature adhesive systems (silicone, epoxy, acrylic, etc.)
- Pressure-sensitive vs thermoset adhesives
- Adhesion to metal foils and polymer substrates
- Hands-on experience with materials characterization techniques (e.g., peel & shear testing, DSC, TGA, DMA, FTIR, mechanical testing and environmental testing).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to link material properties to performance.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate technical findings to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
- Curiosity-driven mindset with a passion for innovation and emerging technologies
- Experience with data analysis software, MS Excel, Matlab, Minitab and/or Origin
