Job Description

he Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), through the Center for Public Health Science and Innovation (PHSI), seeks a Health of Boston Design and Dissemination Specialist to support the production of Health of Boston (HOB) reports and related materials.  

The Fellow will support the formatting, layout, visual design, and dissemination of public health products, helping translate complex data into clear, accessible, and visually engaging materials for a range of audiences. This role focuses on design, production, and dissemination support, with limited contributions to written content refinement.

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Format and lay out Health of Boston reports, executive summaries, technical appendices, and data compendia  
  • Design and produce visually engaging materials including infographics, one-pagers, fact sheets, presentations, posters, and social media graphics  
  • Create clear and accessible charts, tables, callout boxes, and simple data visualizations using established templates and branding  
  • Support the translation of complex public health data into formats that are understandable to non-technical audiences  
  • Maintain consistency across materials, including formatting, typography, color schemes, chart styles, and branding standards  
  • Adapt content across formats (e.g., full reports, executive summaries, slides, and public-facing materials)  
  • Provide light editing support to improve clarity, flow, and plain-language accessibility of written materials  
  • Apply principles of health equity  in the development of materials  
  • Support dissemination efforts, including preparing materials for web posting, presentations, and stakeholder engagement  
  • Assist with project coordination tasks such as file organization, version control, and production timelines  
  • Collaborate with epidemiologists and program staff to ensure accuracy and clarity of data displays
