Mitchell County Regional Health Center is in Osage, Iowa located in Mitchell County, which has a population of 10,600 people. MCRHC is a 25-bed critical access hospital, including a Level 4 Trauma Center Emergency Room seeing 3,200 visits annually. The Surgical Services department performs over 1,300 procedures annually, including specialties General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, Pain management, and Podiatry.

About The Job:

The PHO Coding Specialist is responsible for reviewing transcribed and/or hand written provider service documentation, and from the documentation, assigning accurate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes to either the clinic patient encounter form including accurate evaluation and management codes or on various hospital charge forms and/or directly entering the data in facility computer system. Sources of documentation may include office visits, nursing home visits, as well as inpatient, ER, observation, same day surgery and various outpatient hospital visits. Coding Specialists are expected to be able to apply medical necessity criteria and follow up with providers and staff to obtain covered diagnoses as appropriate. The job also involves educating providers and staff on documentation needs for coding and billing guidelines and policies.

 

The Position: 1.0 FTE. 80 hours per pay period. Monday-Friday. Flexible Hours

Pay: Starts at $20.27, increase with experience.

Position Qualifications:

  1. Education:
    1. Courses in medical terminology, , ICD-10 and CPT coding, anatomy and physiology and pharmacology.
    2. Coding Certification preferred.
  2. Experience:
    1. At least two years of relevant health care experience or one year experience in CPT and ICD-10 coding systems preferred
  3. Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes:
    1. Must possess good interpersonal communication skills and be able to interact with a variety of customers including providers.
    2. Typing & computer skills.
