    SUMMARY:

    The Principal is the instructional leader of his/her school.  The Principal is responsible for creating the vision for the school and translating that vision into reality.  The Principal is directly responsible for the academic achievement of students, and for creating a positive climate for the growth of students and staff. 
     
    To be a Principal in PXU is to exercise leadership in its many forms.  The PXU Principal has extensive knowledge of the Phoenix community and has made the choice to answer the call to serve here and to serve the members of this community.  The PXU Principal also exercises the many forms of leadership, including: an equitable vision for school improvement, developing leadership in others, creating a culture of excellence, improving instruction, and establishing clear routines to manage all the operations of the school.  Finally, the PXU Principal is a role model of the PXU Core Values and stewards the school community in pursuit of the ten PXU Commitments.
     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Leads and articulates a vision of high expectations in collaboration with students, staff, and community rooted in a cycle of feedback and accountability, with an emphasis on data-informed school improvement that promotes success for all students.
    2. Leads and facilitates school administrative functions (e.g., facility maintenance, budget, staffing, campus safety, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within district guidelines.
    3. Serves as the instructional leader for the purpose of interpreting data, integrating effective instructional strategies and culturally responsive pedagogy in an inclusive learning environment to improve instruction and achievement of all learners.
    4. Ensures compliance of Governing Board policies and procedures that serve specialized programs.
    5. Engages students, staff, parents, and community in the school decision-making processes.
    6. Establishes strategic partnerships to enhance opportunities for our learning communities.
    7. Conducts supervision and evaluation of certified, support staff, and administrative personnel as applicable.
    8. Maintains a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning; coordinates and supervises the work of the campus safety team.
    9. Develops and implements an effective home/school relationship to include communication with parents, community, industry leaders, and other relevant agencies to foster partnerships that are aligned with the curricula and specialty skills focus.
    10. Promotes the success of all students by acting with integrity, fairness, and ethically.
    11. Promotes the success of all students by understanding and responding to the political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.
    12. Facilitates positive communication between personnel, students and parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving conflicts.
    13. Demonstrates fiscal accountability in the management of site funds that reflect alignment with the identified needs and goals of the school site.
    14. Completes other related duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
     

    Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

    • Possess a Master's degree.
    • Have three (3) years of classroom teacher experience.
    • Have knowledge of curriculum, latest developments in instructional methods, media, and school improvement.
    • Have knowledge of evaluation procedures and the selection and supervision of certified and support staff.
    • Have training and experience in school management.

     
    License and Certification Requirements:

    • Possess a current Arizona Principal Certificate
    • Possess a valid Arizona State Driver's License
    • Possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

    • Ability to work with diverse backgrounds to build consensus and persevere in a complex system.
    • Exhibit an ability to gather data, both quantitative and qualitative, and utilize the available technology to analyze data, to inform their decisions and actions taken as a community leader.
