Position Summary:
Deputy Marshals are responsible for enforcing applicable laws, preventing and investigating criminal activity, making arrests, and supporting special crime prevention and law enforcement programs. All duties are performed in accordance with Quapaw Nation policies and procedures, as well as established internal control standards and objectives.
This position is responsible for enforcing Quapaw Nation, federal, state, and local laws while protecting life and property, preserving public peace, and maintaining community safety.
Essential Job Functions:
- Patrol assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle to detect, deter, and prevent violations of the law.
- Review and analyze evidence, witness statements, and suspect information in criminal cases to identify patterns, trends, connections, or similarities across investigations.
- Cooperate and coordinate with Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies on joint investigations, enforcement actions, and special operations.
- Maintain awareness of changing community conditions and report relevant developments, emerging issues, or trends to command staff, including recommendations for improvement or corrective action.
- Respond to emergencies and apply appropriate levels of force, including the use of firearms when necessary, to prevent or halt crimes in progress and ensure the apprehension of offenders.
- Protect and safeguard public officials, prisoners, citizens, and property as required.
- Serve warrants, summonses, subpoenas, notices, and other legal documents and court processes.
- Search for, collect, document, and securely preserve evidence required for criminal investigations and prosecution.
- Communicate clearly, accurately, and concisely with fellow officers, dispatchers, and members of the public to relay information regarding incidents, suspects, and emergency situations.
- Inspect liquor selling establishments, places of entertainment, motor vehicles, and other locations or situations where law violations may occur or where law enforcement assistance is required.
- Interview suspects, witnesses, and other individuals involved in incidents to obtain information relevant to investigations and enforcement actions.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed reports documenting significant activities, incidents, and information obtained during law enforcement duties.
- Accurately create, maintain, and safeguard records related to crimes, disturbances, investigations, and law enforcement actions.
- Testify in court as required, presenting accurate and factual information based on personal knowledge, notes, reports, and other records, including testimony provided long after the incident occurred.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
