We are looking to hire Administrative Assistants to support our 

Head Start Program.

Greater Bergen Community Action’s (GBCA) Head Start Preschool program is a rewarding place for individuals passionate about helping others who seek to grow their careers while making a difference. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent with prior administrative experience.
  • Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's degree with prior administrative experience
  • Communicates clearly and effectively.
  • Strong computer skills – Microsoft applications
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Bilingual a plus.
  • Ability to organize, set priorities, and exercise sound independent judgment within areas of assigned responsibility.
  • Must be able to interpret, apply, explain, and reach sound decisions following regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise tact, objectivity, sensitivity, strategy, and judgment in dealing with volunteers, parents, and staff.
  • Valid NJ driver’s license preferred and use of own vehicle for self-transportation. Must be able and willing to travel to other sites to fill in as needed.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Learn and adhere to the philosophy and mandates of Head Start and Early Head Start as outlined in the Performance Standards and the Policies and Procedures of Greater Bergen Community Action. 
  • Receive and screen visitors and telephone calls for administrative staff, providing information, directing calls, and handling issues that may require sensitivity, confidentiality, and sound independent judgment.
  • Supports all program staff with clerical and administrative tasks.
  • Provide engaging and friendly customer service to all families.
  • Keep his/her workspace neat and ensure all office equipment and materials are in good condition.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, clients, representatives of community organizations, and other staff members.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Must be a team player willing to assist in any program area.
  • Ensure reliability and punctuality, adhering to the work schedule assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
