This hands-on leadership position oversees all aspects of general campus maintenance to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment that supports the university’s Christ-centered mission and daily operations for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Shop Supervisor manages the team, handles troubleshooting, scheduling, preventive maintenance programs, the work order system, and every facet of maintenance operations across university facilities.

Work Performed

Team Leadership & Supervision

•  Directly supervise the Maintenance Shop team and Maintenance Technicians, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, coaching, scheduling, and disciplinary processes.

•  Foster a collaborative, safety-focused, and service-oriented culture aligned with Charleston Southern University’s Christian values and commitment to excellence.

•  Conduct regular team meetings, skills development sessions, and performance reviews.

Scheduling & Daily Operations

•  Develop and manage weekly and long-term staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for routine operations, special events, and emergency needs.

•  Prioritize and assign daily work tasks based on urgency and operational requirements.
Preventive Maintenance & Troubleshooting

•  Create, implement, and oversee comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules for building systems, including plumbing, electrical, structural components, and related equipment.

•  Serve as the primary troubleshooter for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural issues, diagnosing problems efficiently and directing timely repairs—often under time-sensitive conditions.

•  Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or major projects.
Work Order System Management

•  Administer the computerized maintenance work order system - create, assign, prioritize, track, document, and close out all maintenance requests.

•  Monitor key metrics such as response times, completion rates, and recurring issues; generate reports to support data-driven decisions and continuous improvement.
Comprehensive Maintenance Oversight (“All Things Maintenance”)

•  Take full ownership of maintenance operations, including corrective repairs, inventory management of tools, parts, and supplies, and cost control.

•  Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, university safety policies, building codes, and all applicable regulations.

•  Assist with budget preparation, tracking, and reporting for the maintenance shop.

•  Maintain accurate records, contribute to facility planning, and support campus events or special projects as needed.

•  Perform hands-on maintenance work when required to meet deadlines or during staff shortages.
