Position Summary
The Sanitation Worker is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene within Scotia Harvest’s production facility. This role is critical to ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and creating a safe environment for seafood processing operations. It requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and strict adherence to sanitation and workplace safety protocols.
Strong communication skills are essential, as you will collaborate closely with sanitation and production managers, as well as other departments, to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
Sanitation Duties
- Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and machinery to meet food safety standards.
- Wash and disinfect tools, surfaces, and production materials.
- Dispose of waste and byproducts according to company and environmental policies.
- Respond promptly to spills or accidents to mitigate risks.
- Support additional cleaning and maintenance tasks during peak production periods or facility shutdowns.
General Expectations
- Always follow food safety and workplace safety protocols.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately.
- Maintain personal hygiene standards in compliance with regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support plant operations.
Work Conditions
- Work scheduling for sanitation operates on an on-call basis. You will be notified of scheduled work at least 12 hours in advance. The typical work day is four to five (4-5) hours per day, Monday through Saturday, from 3:30 PM to 9:00 PM on processing days, and from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on non-processing days.
- Employee acknowledges and agrees that Employee’s hours of work may vary and may be irregular and will be those hours required to meet the objectives of their employment.
- Exposure to cold temperatures and industrial environments.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
