Position Summary:
Provides first aid and emergency medical response for employees and supports pre-hire and ongoing testing programs, including drug and alcohol testing and occupational health testing (e.g. audiometric testing and respirator fit testing), in accordance with regulatory requirements and Vigor policies.
 
Shift Hours: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
 
Pay Range: $52,000 - 63,000 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide first aid assessment, care, and documentation for injuries and illnesses presented to the VMG Health Services Clinic, including vital signs, wound care, emergency evaluation, and CPR/AED response, and coordinate with the on-duty Safety Department representative during medical emergencies.
  • Facilitate intake and documentation of accident reports, collaborate with Operations and Safety to support injury investigations, and maintain daily encounter logs and required medical documentation in compliance with Vigor policies and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct pre-hire, random, post-accident/incident, and reasonable suspicion or reasonable cause drug and alcohol testing. (Training Provided)
  • Conduct initial baseline and annual audiograms in accordance with the hearing conservation program, complete required follow-up examinations, and maintain audiometric records. (Training Provided)
  • Perform initial and annual respirator medical clearance evaluations and fit testing in accordance with the respirator fit program. (Training Provided)
  • Support Vigor safety initiatives through collaboration with Safety, Operations, and other departments, and assist the Workers’ Compensation Manager with documentation, case updates, and related administrative support.
  • Maintain employee medical records in compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality, and other federal requirements, ensure the medical facility is clean, sanitary, organized, and professionally maintained, and manage communications and email notifications.
 
Supervisory Responsibility: None.
 
Interpersonal Contacts: 
Collaborates with craft/hourly employees, operations and administrative staff, Safety, and Human Resources across the organization.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing changing priorities in a clinical and industrial environment.
  • Strong multitasking and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to triage competing demands and respond effectively to routine and emergency situations.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills with a service-oriented, professional approach when interacting with employees, supervisors, and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to document medical encounters, incident information, and testing results accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency with PCs, Microsoft Office, and related software applications, including electronic recordkeeping and email communications.
  • Working knowledge of occupational health, first aid, and emergency response practices in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Safety, Operations, Human Resources, and administrative staff to support organizational safety initiatives.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and city emergency response protocols, including Multnomah County, preferred.
 
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two (2) years of EMT experience and/or equivalent experience in an industrial or occupational health clinic preferred.
 
Certifications and Licenses:
Advanced First Aid certification required at minimum and/or current EMT certification.
 
Physical Demands:
Primarily clinic-based with occasional emergency response in shipyard production areas. Requires walking throughout the facility, climbing stairs or ladders, entering confined spaces, working at heights, and lifting or carrying 50 - 100 pounds. May involve bending, squatting, crawling, and twisting. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
 
Work Environment:
