About Salem Public Schools, where belonging leads to opportunity.

Salem is a small, diverse city with a proud maritime and immigrant history. Salem Public Schools is an urban public school district enrolling nearly 4,000 students in 10 schools. Our vision is to ensure that all students will be locally engaged, globally connected, and fully prepared to thrive in a diverse and changing world. We hold dear our core values of belonging, equity, and opportunity in everything we do. We seek individuals who are passionate about urban education and understand the urgency of improving student achievement for all students, regardless of ability, economic status, gender/gender identity, language, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, or other backgrounds. We invite you to learn more about our strategic plan and core priorities on our website at https://salemk12.org/.

About the Position

Salem Public Schools is seeking dedicated educators for the Coaching Coherence Advisory and Working Group. This group will serve as a collaborative space to advise on the development and rollout of an aligned set of coaching practices grounded in both adaptive and technical approaches so that we can amplify the impact of the coaching model across our system. Teachers and Instructional Coaches are both encouraged to apply.

We believe that coaching is one of the most impactful and supportive tools available to teachers. While this model is strictly non-evaluative, focusing instead on partnership and growth, the primary goal of coaching is to increase and strengthen student learning. This work is to build a coaching framework that directly drives student learning by ensuring every teacher has the support they need to thrive and is designed to intersect with and support school and district priorities.

Responsibilities and Timelines

Members of this working group will meet regularly throughout the spring to address the following:

  • Collaborative Design: Share background knowledge and personal experiences to help shape district-wide coaching approaches and tools

  • Problem Solving: Support the identification of key adaptive challenges and provide feedback to strengthen systems for coaching at the school and district level

  • Coaching Grounded in Student Data: Advise on the role of data in a supportive, teacher-centered coaching model.

  • Meeting Schedule: Participate in (5) 1-hour long, virtual meetings held throughout May, June, and July and complete tasks asynchronously in between meetings.

Total Compensation: $45 per meeting/$225 for all 5 meetings plus 8 hours of asynchronous work $360 for a total of $585

Essential Attributes

  • Believes in the power of coaching to accelerate growth in practice and student outcomes

  • Believes that coaching is for everyone

  • Holds an unwavering belief that every student and teacher in Salem can grow and succeed.

  • Skilled in providing equitable access to the curriculum, particularly in underserved populations.

  • Able to work collaboratively and flexibly as part of a team.

  • Has a strong work ethic, is self-directed, and has the ability to work independently.

  • Currently employed as a teacher or coach within Salem Public Schools.
