Career Opportunities: Senior Economist (60882)
The global energy system is undergoing a fundamental transformation. At COWI, our Energy Transition Advisory (ETA) team supports clients in navigating the energy trilemma: delivering solutions that balance affordability, security of supply, and sustainability– in Denmark, across the Nordics, and throughout Europe.
Powering the Future: Senior Economist for the Electrification Era
Electrification is at the heart of the green transition. A growing share of energy demand is shifting to electricity, placing unprecedented demands on power markets, grid capacity, and market design. COWI is deeply involved in this transformation – from supporting Energinet in expanding and upgrading the Danish electricity grid, to advising public and private actors on how future electricity systems should be designed and operated.
At the same time, we work with power generation and storage, microgrids and local energy systems for private actors, helping industries and developers integrate renewables, enhance flexibility, and transform new consumption patterns into robust and economically sound solutions.
To expand our advisory capabilities through electrification, we are now looking for a Senior Economist to join our Energy Transition Advisory team. As a Senior Economist, you will work closely with engineers, policy experts, and data specialists to deliver market‑based and economic insights that help our clients make informed decisions in the energy transition.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Provide advanced quantitative and data‑driven analysis, such as price formation, scenario analysis, and market impacts
- Manage economic and regulatory analysis of tariffs, grid costs, and market incentives
- Develop and use analytical models, for example Python or similar tools
- Translate complex analyses into clear, decision‑ready insights for clients
- Contribute to multidisciplinary advisory projects across the energy system
Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future
To succeed in this role, you enjoy working closely with colleagues, partners, and customers. You build strong professional relationships by acting with integrity, following through on commitments, and contributing constructively to shared goals. You are open to new perspectives and continuously look for ways to improve how work is done. We are looking for someone who combines solid economic thinking with quantitative skills and a genuine interest in the energy transition.
On top of that, you:
- Hold a Master’s degree or PhD in Economics, Energy Economics, or a related field
- Have solid knowledge of electricity markets and regulation in Denmark and the EU, including day ahead, intraday and balancing markets, Nord Pool, market coupling and cross border trade i
- Are comfortable with advanced quantitative analysis and complex datasets
- Have experience with modelling and programming e.g. Python
- Enjoy working in interdisciplinary, engineering heavy teams and communicating your insights clearly
- Speak fluent English and Danish, written and spoken
As part of COWI, you will also broaden your perspective and engage with other technical and market areas. This includes emerging and fast‑growing fields such as carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), where COWI is widely recognized for its expertise.
What we offer
At COWI, we believe that the best solutions are created together. We offer:
- A central role in a prominent energy transition advisory environment
- The chance to work on projects that shape future energy systems
- Collaboration with leading specialists across disciplines and markets
- Significant avenues for advancing your professional skills and personal growth
- A flexible work environment and trust‑based work culture built on curiosity, collaboration, and responsibility
A place to work and so much more
At COWI, we work together with our customers to shape a sustainable and liveable world. We support our customers’ transition towards increased sustainability. We strive to lead by example by embedding environmental management, social responsibility and good governance into our business practices and the options we provide to our customers.
