Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated Sleep Tech Trainee to join our team. This is an entry-level position where you will develop the technical skills necessary to perform overnight sleep studies (polysomnography) under the supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).
Success in this role requires a unique blend of hands-on patient care and rigorous independent study. You will be expected to proactively complete required educational modules and prepare for professional board certification while gaining clinical hours. This is a nighttime position.

The Sleep Tech trainee will complete the A-Step modules through the AASM (paid for by TriState Health). Study independently for, take and pass the the RPSGT exam, within 12 - 18 months of hire.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Training & Patient Care:

  • Learn to prepare and calibrate polysomnographic equipment.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors to patients following established AASM standards.
  • Monitor patients overnight, documenting clinical events such as respiratory issues or EKG abnormalities.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting of equipment and data signals.

Independent Learning & Certification:

  • Proactively complete A-STEP (Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program) online self-study modules.
  • Independently study medical terminology, anatomy, and sleep-wake scoring rules.
  • Track and document clinical hours to meet BRPT certification pathways.

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Successful completion of a Polysomnographic the training courses in order to become state licensed and/or nationally accredited with documented proficiency in all required competencies, within 12-18 months of hire.
  • CNA license, preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Motivation: Must be a self-directed learner capable of managing a rigorous study schedule outside of clinical shifts.
  • Certifications: Ability to obtain and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare workers.
  • Technical Skills: Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn complex medical software.
  • Availability: Must be able to work 12 hour overnight shifts.
