Job Summary: The Trucking Dispatcher / Driver Supervisor is responsible for coordinating freight movement, optimizing driver schedules, and directly supervising company drivers to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations. This role serves as the primary point of contact for drivers and plays a critical leadership role in performance management, compliance, and operational excellence.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, schedule, and dispatch drivers and equipment to meet customer delivery and pickup requirements.
  • Monitor loads, routes, and driver availability to maximize efficiency and minimize delays.
  • Track shipments using TMS, GPS, and ELD systems and proactively address service disruptions.
  • Communicate load details, routing instructions, and schedule changes clearly to drivers.
  • Coordinate with customers, brokers, and internal teams regarding delivery status and service issues

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:  

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in trucking dispatch, logistics, or fleet operations.
  • Prior experience supervising or leading drivers strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and hours-of-service requirements.
  • Proficiency with dispatch software, TMS, ELD systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Availability for after-hours or weekend support as required by operations.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

  • Directly supervise assigned drivers, serving as their primary operational and performance contact.
  • Ensure drivers understand and follow company policies, safety standards, and DOT/FMCSA regulations.
  • Monitor driver performance including on-time delivery, safety behavior, hours-of-service compliance, and customer service.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with drivers to address concerns, resolve issues, and promote engagement.
  • Participate in driver onboarding, training coordination, and mentoring of new drivers.
  • Recommend and administer corrective actions, coaching, or commendations as appropriate.
