Job Description

Position Summary 

This position directly supports Nature-Based climate resilience in Charles County by caring for native trees planted across public schools and two new innovative urban pocket parks, as well as supporting a variety of park maintenance projects. Work projects may include tree care and maintenance, trail work, habitat restoration, and more. Through this work, participants will gain hands-on conservation experience and help address the impacts of climate change in their community. Participants will have access to nature-based climate resilience “green infrastructure” training and opportunities to work with and meet natural resource professionals as part of the Resilience Authority’s natural resources career development efforts. Work will primarily be accomplished by 2 adult leaders, with Saturdays of May and June dedicated to mentoring and supervising 2 high school crew members.

 

Location 

Charles County, MD

 

Schedule 

Saturday, May 30th;

Saturday, June 6th;

Saturday, June 13th;

Saturday, June 20th;

Saturday, June 27th.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Work collaboratively with team members to complete outdoor hands-on projects
  • Learn new skills in tree care, trail work, and park maintenance
  • Participate in career builder activities.

 

Marginal Duties 

  • Participate in environmental education learning activities
  • Complete feedback surveys
  • Participate in professional development sessions like career panels and SMART Goal planning.

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements
  • Must be a minimum of 15 years of age, currently enrolled in high school or graduating senior, and able to attain a minor work permit
  • Must have the ability to legally work in the US
  • Must be able to complete SCA online onboarding new hire paperwork in a timely manner.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Outdoor work experience a plus
  • Experience working in a team
  • Open to learning new skills and more about conservation.

 

Hours 

40 per week

 

Living Accommodations 

No housing - candidates must live near Charles County, Maryland

 

Compensation  

$18/hour; bi-weekly pay schedule

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes. 

 

Personal Vehicle Information

Transportation required to the meeting site in Waldorf, MD.
