- Practical experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining small engines (e.g., lawn equipment, chainsaws, generators, and similar equipment)
- Ability to safely operate and instruct students in the use of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
- Strong understanding of shop safety procedures and ability to enforce safety standards consistently
- Skill in breaking down complex mechanical concepts into clear, step-by-step instruction appropriate for high school students
- Classroom management skills with the ability to maintain a structured, disciplined, and productive learning environment
- Ability to develop lesson plans that combine hands-on learning with foundational mechanical theory
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with students, parents, and school staff
- Basic computer skills for grading, lesson planning, and instructional support
- Commitment to student success, including the ability to motivate and engage students with varying skill levels
- Industry certification (e.g., Briggs & Stratton, EETC, or similar)
- Prior teaching or training experience, especially in Career and Technical Education (CTE)
- Experience working with adolescents in an educational or training setting
