    SUBSTITUTE SCHOOL NURSE
    Location: Assigned School Building(s)
    Terms of Employment: As Needed/Substitute
    Reports To: Building Principal and/or District Nurse Supervisor
    Salary Classification: Substitute Salary Schedule

    PURPOSE

    Sweetwater County School District #2 is seeking qualified Substitute School Nurses to provide nursing and health-related services to students on an as-needed basis. The Substitute School Nurse supports student health and wellness by providing assessment, first aid, health monitoring, and coordination of care to minimize absences due to illness, maximize educational opportunities, and promote a safe and healthy school environment.

    Registered Nurse (RN) preferred. Applicants must meet all district substitute requirements and possess appropriate nursing credentials/licensure.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Provides nursing assessment and care for students who are ill or injured during the school day.
    • Administers first aid, medications, treatments, and health-related procedures in accordance with physician orders, district policy, and applicable laws and regulations.
    • Assesses student health concerns and determines appropriate interventions, referrals, and follow-up care.
    • Responds appropriately to medical emergencies and activates emergency response procedures when necessary.
    • Maintains accurate and confidential health records and documentation in accordance with district procedures and applicable privacy laws.
    • Collaborates with healthcare providers, parents/guardians, students, school staff, and community agencies to support continuity of care and student health needs.
    • Communicates with parents/guardians regarding student illness, injury, medication administration, or health concerns as appropriate.
    • Supports implementation of student health plans, emergency care plans, and accommodations for students with medical conditions.
    • Assists in monitoring communicable illnesses and follows district health and safety protocols.
    • Provides health education and guidance to students and staff as appropriate.
    • Confers with parents, students, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other professionals regarding student health concerns and developmental needs.
    • Maintains professional nursing standards and complies with district policies, Wyoming Department of Health requirements, and applicable nursing regulations.
    • Follows all applicable safety procedures and emergency protocols.

    ADDITIONAL DUTIES

    • Assists school administration and staff with health-related concerns and student wellness initiatives as needed.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisors or administrators.

    • Requires standing, walking, bending, and responding quickly to emergencies throughout the workday.

    QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE

    Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would include:

    • Current Wyoming nursing license as a Registered Nurse (RN) preferred; Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) may be considered
    • Current CPR and First Aid certification required
    • Previous pediatric, school nursing, emergency care, or related nursing experience preferred
    • Must meet all Sweetwater County School District #2 substitute requirements
    • Ability to successfully complete district-required trainings and background checks
