Grading Crew Laborer
Job Description

 

Department:    Myrl & Roy’s
Reports to:     Grading Superintendent and Grading Forman

 

Job Summary:
The primary functions of a grading crew laborer include assisting with all aspects of laying base gravel in preparation for asphalt paving on roads and parking lots.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Does not have any direct reports.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Perform physical duties of the task assigned.
•    Follows all company safety policies.
•    Display good communication skills, including the ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions and instructions. 
•    Build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers. 
•    Manually load, unload, and move gravel, sand, stone, and asphalt.
•    Spread, rake, and level gravel and aggregate over road surfaces, driveways, or building pads to meet specific grade elevations.
•    Raise manholes.
•    Clean and prepare construction sites, including removing large rocks, debris, and garbage.
•    Be able to safely use or operate tools like shovels, hand tampers, power brooms, and hand and power tools.
•    All other duties assigned. 

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 
•    Excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
•    Excellent problem-solving skills.
•    Keen attention to detail.
•    Good work attendance is a must.
•    Ability to work safely in a team environment.
Education and Experience:
•    High School diploma or GED

 

Physical Requirements:
•    Ability to stand, squat, bend, and walk for extended periods.
•    Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
•    Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all temperatures and weather conditions.
•    Ability to walk on uneven surfaces.
•    Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
