This is a highly responsible position in an expanded role of professional nursing which provides independent primary care to a specified population of non-emergency patients, as well as responding to patient emergencies. The incumbent provides consultation and advice to others. This position is under the administrative direction of the Health Services Administrator and/or Mental Health Director the clinical direction of the physician.
This a "mandatory-testing position" that requires Drug Testing.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Follows all standards and patient care protocols, all federal, state, correctional health care standards, and the Escambia County BCC Office policies, regulations, and guidelines
Provides health care and performs medical acts within guidelines of protocols established mutually with supervising physician
Identifies health problems through patient histories and examinations, develops and implements appropriate plan of care
Provides management and care of acute and chronic health problems. Provides related patient health care education
Performs physical examinations, evaluations, diagnosis, treatment, and follow up consultation
Orders appropriate lab tests and medications, according to interpretation of diagnostic testing and response to treatment, while following established written protocol and institution formulary and state regulations
Performs consultation evaluations as requested and coordinates treatment and referrals with other disciplines as necessary
Conducts complete and accurate documentation in health records for care provided
Maintains health services records and logs and assists with data entry within the scope of clinically related information
Conducts rounds, reviews medications, observes and records progress and condition of inmates housed in confinement and receiving health care services
Compiles inpatient admission discharge/transfer summaries as required in department policies
Provides health care and crises intervention services in response to inmate emergencies
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Training and Experience:
Master's degree in Nursing or related field, and two years experience as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
Must be able to obtain Security clearance
Licenses and Certifications:
Current State of Florida Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license
Must possess a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification at the time of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Correctional health care

administrative planning and leadership skills
assist in supervision and training of staff to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments

current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluations, diagnosis and treatment
strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse community.

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, finger and hand dexterity, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, blood and other bodily fluids, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
