The Lactation Consultant utilizes the nursing process to assess lactating mothers and their families, develop, and implement a specific plan of care that promotes optimal outcomes for the family; while meeting their educational needs. The Lactation Consultant serves as a clinical resource for healthcare professionals regarding lactation and participates in quality and process improvement activities within Lactation Services and clinical areas utilizing their services.

If you are selected for this position, you will be asked to supply your immunization records as proof of vaccination. If you and have any concerns about receiving these vaccines, medical and/or religious exemptions can be further discussed with Human Resources.

  • Utilize the nursing process to develop and implement a lactation-specific plan of care for the breastfeeding / human milk feeding family to promote optimal patient outcomes.
  • Meets the educational needs of mothers and their families, utilizing sound principles of teaching/learning.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for the education and consultation needs of the care team.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Bachelor's Degree BSN and 3-5 years experience Experience as a nurse on a pediatric medical floor, pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit, or a mother/baby unit.
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
  • Employees must obtain International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or equivalent within 1 year.
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $34.43/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

 

 

This is an intermittent remote position, which means that the person hired will work with his or her manager to determine a schedule that includes both at home and on-site hours at a Children’s Mercy location. The incumbent must live in the Kansas City metro area.
