<p>Functioning within the Health System&rsquo; mission, values, objectives, procedures and policies, the Coder - Professional codes all physician office medical records as assigned by reviewing the entire medical record to determine if the documentation supports the code assignment as well as reviewing the chart for any specific regulations such as medical necessity. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Education: An Associate&rsquo;s degree or completion of a certified coding program is required.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Licensure/Certification: &nbsp;Current CPC or AHIMA Certified Physician Coder is required. &nbsp;Will consider candidate who is actively enrolled in certification program. &nbsp;To retain position, if individual without a current certification is hired into a Coder - Professional position, s/he must successfully obtain certification within one year of hire.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Experience: &nbsp;A minimum of two years of coding experience in a physician&rsquo;s office or hospital setting is preferred.</p>

<p>Skills: &nbsp;Must be knowledgeable in grouper mechanics, medical necessity, clinical documentations, RAC&rsquo;s and other review processes and demonstrate proficiency with reimbursement and MS-DRG&rsquo;s. &nbsp;Basic competency with Word and Excel is also required. &nbsp;Knowledge of Quantim encoder and Meditech is strongly preferred.&nbsp;</p>

ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnoses and procedure codes are applied to inpatients and CPT-4 procedure codes are applied to all outpatients treated within the OSU Health System that are not captured through the charge description master. Medical record abstract data is assigned based on information reviewed for accuracy in IHIS during the coding process.</span></span></p><p><br /><span><span><b>Position Summary</b></span><br /><span>The position is responsible for coding medical records and other documents at the conclusion of the patient’s visit. A senior medical records coding specialist requires the skill set to code multiple work types for inpatient and outpatient services (outlined below). This requires selection of appropriate admitting diagnosis, principal and secondary diagnoses, principal procedure and secondary procedures; assigning accurate ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes; sequencing the diagnoses and procedures codes; and abstracting information including admission source, type, disposition, admitting, attending and procedure attending physicians.</span></span></p><p><br /><span><span>Codes are selected in the Computer Assisted Coding/Encoder Software following review of information in the electronic medical record system, IHIS. Information abstracted and coded is interfaced to IHIS Resolute Billing system. This staff member is responsible to address all edits during the coding and abstracting process for complete and accurate coding and MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment for hospital reimbursement.</span><br /><span>This staff member will maintain productivity and quality standards set for the department maintain an approved work schedule and submit a weekly volume log.</span><br /><br /><span><b>Organizational Expectations</b></span><br /><span>Practices within the Health System&#39;s policies and procedures. <p>Coordinate and oversee activities of the clinic and medical office team members to ensure effective and efficient delivery of high-quality clinical care for patients. The site supervisor serves as the leader for the practices within a specific site and is accountable to their teams achieving goals around productivity, quality, patient/co-worker experience, safety, and innovation annually. In addition to leadership functions, this position will also be responsible for patient care duties.</p>
