Job Summary: 
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Coder to join our team at Boone County Health Center. In this role, you will be responsible for applying appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information for accurate data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, disease processes, and coding practices to ensure compliance with coding standards and regulations.

Qualifications:

<ul>
	<li>High school diploma or equivalent.</li>
	<li>One-year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience (one year of education equals one year of experience).</li>
	<li>Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, anatomy, and physiology, and medical records procedures.</li>
	<li>Proficient in CPT/ICD-10 and HCPCS coding terminologies.</li>
	<li>Experience with personal computers and general office equipment.</li>
	<li>Successful completion of a coding certification with AHIMA approval status (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P) or AAPC approval status (CPC).</li>
	<li>Previous experience as a coder is preferred.</li>

	Assigns CPT/ICD-10 Codes:

	<ul>
		<li>Abstracts pertinent patient information from patient records and assigns correct CPT/ICD-10 codes.</li>
		<li>Queries healthcare providers when documentation is inadequate or unclear for coding purposes.</li>
		<li>Meets productivity standards based on assigned account type(s).</li>
		<li>Conducts chart audits for assigned account types.</li>
		<li>Maintains knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.</li>
	</ul>
	</li>
	<li>
	Performs Follow-Up:

	<ul>
		<li>Follows up and makes necessary changes to entries on patient accounts as needed.</li>
	</ul>
	</li>
	<li>
	Adheres to Ethical Coding Standards:

	<ul>
		<li>Follows ethical coding standards set by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).</li>
		<li>Keeps up to date with coding guidelines and reimbursement requirements.</li>
		<li>Brings identified concerns to the supervisor or department manager.</li>
	</ul>

<h3>What You’ll Do</h3>

Review outpatient and/or inpatient records to ensure accuracy and completeness
</li>
<li>
Assign appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis and CPT procedure codes following current standards
</li>
<li>
Collaborate with medical staff and other departments to resolve coding questions
</li>
<li>
Enter coding data into encoder and hospital information systems accurately and efficiently
</li>
</ul>
 
<h3>What We’re Looking For</h3>
<ul>
<li>
At least 1 year of relevant outpatient ICD-10 and CPT coding experience or recent graduates of a coding/billing program (we’re willing to train the right candidate)
</li>
<li>
Knowledge of E/M levels, injection and infusions and outpatient surgery coding is a plus
</li>
<li>
CCA or CCS credentialed candidates are preferred, but not required
</li>
<li>
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to teamwork
</li>
<li>
High school diploma or equivalent required
</li>
<li>
Ability to work on-site for at least the first six months, with potential for occasional remote work thereafter depending on skill level
</li>
