Role Summary
We’re looking for a Computer Engineering Intern to support both our R&amp;D and Sustaining Engineering teams. You’ll work on embedded firmware development in C, electronics troubleshooting, and test development across prototype systems and existing products in the field. This is a hands-on role that collaborates closely with electrical, firmware, software, and lab teams.
What You’ll Do

 <li>Develop, debug, and maintain embedded C firmware for MCU-based systems (Microchip, NXP, STM32-class devices)</li>

Responsibilities:
The overall goal for the summer intern is to experience and understand an Extension program from start to finish, from developing new information for programming through research to disseminating that content to the public, and to gain a perspective on the small farm needs in Utah:<ul><li>Lead, manage, and learn about high-value field cropping systems, including planting, weeding, fertilizing, irrigating, harvesting, data entry, and markets. These duties provide skills in managing applied research for strong and dynamic data collection, site aesthetics for hosting Extension outreach (a field day, farm association meetings, social media, and online tools), and challenges that arise in the field through developing critical thinking skills.</li><li>Learn to disseminate research-based information to the public by coauthoring a USU Extension fact sheet for small farms or developing a short, educational video to be published on Instagram (@usu_smallfarms), or developing a website calculator that helps small growers implement soil or water recommendations. The intern will gain a perspective on crop production and limitations that resonate with farmers.</li><li>Assist with a field tour for growers and visiting faculty. The intern will gain experience with Extension events by helping to prepare the site for the tour, review needs assessments, and participate in planning for future outreach to ensure our Extension program is continually refreshed and meeting urban agriculture needs in Utah.</li><li>Collect digital imagery to develop educational, professional, engaging, and relevant social media content that consistently engages small-scale farmers. This also helps interns learn careful documentation skills when conducting research.</li><li>Communicate and work with graduate students by providing supplementary help on their projects, and in turn receiving student-to-student mentorship. Overview:
Make a difference in the lives of young people through hands-on learning and leadership development. This internship supports 4-H and youth programs that help youth build life skills, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging while exploring a wide-variety of interests. Interns will gain meaningful, real-world experience delivering programs, mentoring youth, and engaging with communities. You’ll be part of a supportive, collaborative team that values creativity, positive youth development, and community connection. This role offers a mix of in-person programming and planning, with opportunities for flexible scheduling depending on program needs. If you’re passionate about working with youth and want to explore a career in education, Extension, or community-based programming, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Promote local participation in monthly STEM challenges by 4-H state office through local facilitation (30 expected youth engagement)</li><li>Develop STEM Summer Camp day camp with IE and other community partners (120 expected youth engagement)</li><li>Partner with Southeast Education Service Center to host on-site makers club for the summer (60 expected youth engagement)</li><li>Work with faculty to develop a STEM make-and-take project for the Carbon County Fair's Kid Day event (250 expected youth engagement)</li><li>Work with faculty mentor on developing a circuitry/electrical engineering Discover 4-H curriculum</li></ul>
