Sr. Programmer Developer | Pay Range: $97,580.00 - $126,795.00
Programmer Developer II | Pay Range: $77,900.00 - $99,320.00
We are seeking a highly motivated Programmer Developer to join our IT Apps Reliability team.  As a Programmer Developer, you will be responsible for overseeing application administration, maintenance, development, testing, software release management, upgrades, security, compliance, and production support for the IT Reliability & Operations Support teams.. These applications are critical to maintaining operational reliability and driving efficiency for SPP engineers and operators, while ensuring transparent, data-driven insights that empower informed decisions for our members and customers.
Our application suite includes both third-party software and custom-developed solutions, with a primary focus on software administration, development, and real-time support for these critical applications. You will also have the opportunity to innovate by developing and expanding integration and automation solutions to enhance the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for both third-party and custom applications. This role plays a crucial part in delivering highly available software solutions that meet the uptime demands critical to the Operations Support organization and the bulk electric system.
Essential Functions:
<ul>
<li>Install, configure, maintain, and support assigned application systems</li>
<li>Monitor, investigate, and resolve system issues or abnormalities to ensure systems operate per requirements</li>
<li>Acknowledge and remediate customer-reported issues and inquiries in a timely manner</li>
<li>Participate in a 24x7/365 on-call rotation</li>
<li>Multi-task, problem-solve, and demonstrate the ability to understand complex, highly integrated systems</li>
<li>Demonstrate detailed knowledge of assigned applications or interfaces and serve as a Subject Matter Expert</li>
<li>Maintain a comprehensive understanding of business and technical requirements for assigned systems and a working knowledge of other supported systems</li>
<li>Engage in all applicable phases of the SDLC and project lifecycle, including requirements and design, testing, non-production support, release deployment, and coordination of implementation plans across teams, vendors, and stakeholders</li>
<li>Create and maintain technical system documentation</li>
<li>Recommend and implement system, process, and documentation improvements</li>
<li>Continue to develop and retain technical skills relevant to assigned focus areas</li>

To be successful as the Programmer Developer, we're looking for:

<li>Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field, or equivalent work experience</li>
<li>Programmer Developer II - Three (3) years’ experience of Information Technology Development/Support experience</li>
<li>Senior Programmer Developer - Six (6) years of applicable Information Technology Development/Support experience</li>
<li>Competent and effective working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Unix or Linux operating systems, application development and support, and database management systems</li>
<li>Competent and effective troubleshooting, problem solving, and analytical skills</li>
<li>Competent and effective written and oral communication skills</li>
<li>Competent understanding and effective working knowledge of SDLC and project life cycle methods and practices</li>
<li>Good customer service and organization skills</li>

Position Type, Location, and Expected Hours of Work:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in IT/CS; 3 years (Programmer Developer II) or 6 years (Senior) IT development/support; strong Windows/Unix/Linux, SDLC knowledge; good problem solving and communication.

Key Responsibilities: 
<ul>
<li>Build, update, and maintain transmission and generation models supporting reliability, economic, and policy studies through collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders—including Transmission Owners, Generator Owners, Balancing Authorities, RTOs/PCs. • Lead and support ERAG MMWG model development, data management, case preparation, and reporting along with modeling work associated with planning‑related NERC compliance filings (MOD, TPL), ensuring adherence to OATT/Tariff and FERC/NERC requirements. • Provide comprehensive technical engineering support for internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate modeling data submissions. • Analyze highly complex system data, identify and mitigate modeling risks, and implement engineering solutions. • Make timely decisions affecting the design, scheduling, and completion of projects that may affect multiple departments or the division.  • Contribute to and influence complex projects requiring coordination across multiple departments and divisions. </li>

Required Education & Experience
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical and Computer Engineering • Four years related energy industry experience (eight preferred) with Transmission Owners, Generator Owners, Balancing Authorities, RTOs, or Planning Coordinators. • Power system modeling experience, including power flow and dynamic simulation tools such as PSS®E, MUST, TARA, TSAT. • Exposure to power system planning, bulk electric system operations, substation design, or protection/control engineering. • Experience supporting FERC/NERC compliance evidence.</li>

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $124,000-149,000 USD annually.  Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, and qualifications/experience.
