Summary

The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is a not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, the City of New York. BNYDC strives to provide an environment in which innovative companies can take root and grow.

  Areas of Responsibility

  • Draft, review, and negotiate leases, subleases, and other types of real estate agreements for BNYDC and its subsidiary entities; providing legal support for complex real estate development deals
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, such as construction and consulting contracts, contract amendments, requests for proposals and other procurement offerings
  • Work with BNYDC staff (“staff”), outside counsels and consultants to review, monitor, prepare responses and provide information in connection with litigation matters
  • Work with staff to prepare for and execute Board of Director and committee meetings, including collecting, reviewing, and assembling materials for such meetings
  • Work with staff to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, contractual commitments, and corporate policies
  • Work with staff and outside consultant(s) to ensure that BNYDC and its subsidiary entities are properly protected by their own and third-party insurance policies, including the review and analysis of insurance requirements and certificates
  • Conduct legal research on various legal issues and on new and proposed legislation potentially impacting BNYDC and its subsidiary entities
  • Advise executives, and management on legal issues as they arise
  • Anticipate, raise, and mitigate legal issues which could impact BNYDC and its subsidiary entities
