IV. Position Summary: The District School Librarian Specialist provides leadership, direction,
and coordination for instructional technology and media services
across the district’s buildings. This role empowers students to be
critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and ethical users of information
while partnering with staff to integrate digital literacy and emerging
technologies into the K-12 curriculum. The specialist creates a
welcoming climate that facilitates information retrieval and fosters a
passionate commitment to improving learning for all students.
V. Responsibilities: A. Implement and oversee the building media programs, ensuring
equitable access to resources for all students and staff.
B. Empower students as skillful researchers and ethical users of
information through formal and informal instruction on search
strategies and information literacy.
C. Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and implement
lessons that integrate research, document/presentation
production, and instructional technology.
D. Manage the district library budget, including the selection,
ordering, and inventory of print, non-print, and AV materials.
E. Lead the evaluation and modeling of emerging technologies,
providing training and support to staff, including school website
maintenance.
F. Serve as the Instructional Materials and Assessment
Representative: maintain orderly supply areas for content-
specific materials in all curricular areas.
G. Supervise and evaluate assigned Paraeducators within the
building media centers.
H. Maintain an electronic inventory of all instructional technology
and audio-visual materials.
I. Participate in curriculum committees and attend Academic
Services Department meetings.
J. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or
designee.
VI. Qualifications: A. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Library Media (ND/NQ)
endorsement; K-12 certification preferred.

B. Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLIS, MSLS, or MSIS) from
an ALA (America Library Association) – accredited program
preferred.
C. Proven experience working with students in public school library
media centers, preferably at multiple grade levels.
D. Proficiency in library management software.
E. Superior verbal and written communication skills, and
demonstrated positive interpersonal relationships with all
stakeholders.
F. Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage library tasks for 3
buildings efficiently.
G. Ability to oversee library programs budget and finances.
VII. Compensation: Salary per the Byron Education Association (BEA) collective
bargaining agreement.
