Description

The Arc of Rensselaer County is hiring a Community Support Specialist to work in one of our day programs. You’ll support people with disabilities as they learn new skills, take part in fun activities, and connect with their community. It’s a role where you’ll see the impact of your work every day. What You’ll Do

As a Community Support Specialist, you will:

  • Support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a day program setting.
  • Help individuals create meaningful plans to build skills, develop relationships, and participate in their communities.
  • Support community inclusion by helping individuals engage in meaningful activities, while maintaining regular communication with team members about each person’s goals and support needs.
  • Encourage people as they try out new volunteer opportunities, hobbies, and interests—helping them grow in ways that matter to them.

Requirements

Associate’s degree in a human services or related field from an accredited college and at least one-year experience working with the individuals with disabilities.

High School diploma plus three years of relevant experience. 

 

Employee must have a valid New York State Driver’s license, good driving record and reliable transportation.

This position requires the capacity to support people’s physical management needs, necessitating the ability to lift in excess of fifty pounds (50).
