What You Need

  • Bachelor�s Degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Education, or related field and three (3) to five (5) years of experience working in a recreation program for at risk youth preferred; or any combination of training, education and experience which would provide the required knowledge, abilities and skills to successfully perform in this role.
  • Certified Lifeguard, or ability to obtain within ninety days of hire, required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within ninety days of hire, required
  • Certified Ropes Course Instructor, or ability to obtain within ninety days of hire, required.
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity to our target population�s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and implementation of the Recreation Department�s policies, philosophy, goals, approved schedule and program structure that enhances the program milieu.
  • Manage and implement the activities and recreation programs for all programs on all campuses throughout the organization.
  • Track, record and report outcome related activities and recreation program data.
  • Facilitate and track all recreation funds and verify that purchases are within budget and policy parameters.
  • Ensure adequate staff coverage and required staff/resident ratio for all activities.
  • Ensure that the part-time recreation staff are supported and working effectively with our residents and are following all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other staff and leadership concerning interdepartmental activities/events.
  • Collaborate with the Development department to support the needs of the organization�s activities and recreational functions.
  • Schedule time at regular intervals (quarterly, bi-monthly, etc.) with residents to discuss their sportsmanship, interpersonal skills and level of responsibility demonstrated in recreation activities and the residents' satisfaction with the activities being offered.
  • Assess, record and report activity outcomes to involved staff and leadership team members regularly, as required.
  • Implement the campus fitness program for residents to improve their quality of life.
  • Partner with Human Resources and staff to support the staff wellness program, including support to staff on fitness opportunities around campus and in the weight room.
  • Facilitate Water Safety instruction.
  • Provide suggestions to supervisor for increasing the range and effectiveness of all activities.
  • Supervise or facilitate recreation, sports and leisure activities with residents according to treatment plan and approved schedule.
  • Support group home campus chore program including as needed communications with finance department regarding payment of chore funds to youth.
  • Maintain recreational facility usage calendar to reflect Activities/Recreation Program schedule and to assist others in event planning.
  • Coordinate the implementation of departmental activities on designated weekends, after school, school holidays, and summer breaks.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, uplifting environment surrounding recreation department activities and strong teamwork with co-workers.
  • Travel to remote worksites to assist in implementation of activities and special events, as needed.
  • Assist Legacy Scholars Academy and Montessori school activities and recreation, as needed.
  • Assist in organization-wide storm preparations, as needed.
  • Assist on campus with de-escalation of youth.
  • This job will supervise all employees and volunteers within the Recreation department.
  • Perform all other job duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

Schedule

  • This position works a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends and holidays as needed to support recreation and activities for the youth. Schedule may be subject to change at any time, with or without notice. Other policies concerning this position are set forth in the current policies and procedures manual.
