JOB DESCRIPTION.

Second Baptist School is seeking a full-time DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS � MEN for the 2026-2027 school year.

  • Position Title: Director of Athletics � Men
  • Reports To: Head of Upper School
  • Work Calendar: Eleven Month

JOB SUMMARY.

The Director of Athletics � Men provides leadership, vision, and oversight for the men�s athletic program at Second Baptist School. This role ensures alignment with the mission and core values of the school while supporting coaches, student-athletes, and families.

This position works in partnership with the Director of Athletics � Women to provide unified leadership across the athletic department, including hiring, evaluations, program development, and strategic planning.

The Director of Athletics � Men supports a culture of excellence in competition, sportsmanship, discipleship, and student development.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES.

Essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Vision and Leadership

  • Provide vision and direction for the men�s athletic program aligned with the mission of Second Baptist School
  • Promote a Christ-centered athletic culture emphasizing character, discipline, teamwork, and excellence
  • Partner with the Director of Athletics � Women to ensure consistency and alignment across the athletic department
  • Support strategic planning and continuous improvement of athletic programs

Program Oversight and Organization

  • Provide leadership and oversight for men�s athletic teams and programs
  • Ensure effective organization and communication across all men�s sports
  • Monitor program quality, competitiveness, and student-athlete development
  • Coordinate schedules, staffing needs, and program priorities
  • Maintain compliance with TAPPS regulations and school policies

Supervision and Accountability

  • Provide leadership and support for head coaches of men�s teams and select co-ed teams
  • Promote accountability and professional expectations for coaches
  • Conduct regular team meetings with coaches and establish goals to ensure vision, alignment, and accountability
  • Support ongoing communication with coaches regarding expectations and performance
  • Address concerns related to program quality, sportsmanship, and student experience

Hiring and Evaluations

  • Collaborate with the Director of Athletics � Women in hiring athletic staff
  • Participate in interviewing and selection of coaches
  • Collaborate on coach evaluations and performance feedback
  • Support development of coaches through mentoring and professional growth

Parent and Community Engagement

  • Lead parent meetings as needed to support program communication and expectations
  • Promote positive relationships with families
  • Support communication related to program vision, expectations, and culture

Professional Learning and Training

  • Encourage ongoing development in leadership, discipleship, and sport-specific knowledge
  • Lead and oversee professional learning opportunities for coaches
  • Implement training aligned with program expectations, safety standards, and school values
  • Ensure professional learning supports the mission and vision of Second Baptist School

Admissions and Student Recruitment

  • Lead partnership with Admissions to support recruitment of mission-fit student-athletes in accordance with TAPPS regulations
  • Participate in meetings with prospective families to represent the athletics program and communicate program vision and culture
  • Support retention of student-athletes by fostering a strong, Christ-centered program culture and positive team experience
  • Collaborate with Admissions and campus leadership to align athletic recruitment efforts with school priorities

College Recruiting Support

  • Oversee and support the college recruiting process for student-athletes pursuing collegiate opportunities
  • Provide guidance to coaches and families on recruiting expectations, timelines, and best practices
  • Assist in developing resources and communication to support student-athletes in navigating collegiate pathways
  • Promote integrity, transparency, and alignment with school values throughout the recruiting process

Fan Experience and School Spirit

  • Lead efforts to develop a positive and engaging fan experience at athletic events
  • Promote school spirit by encouraging student involvement and participation at games and events
  • Partner with student leadership and campus groups to strengthen engagement and game-day atmosphere
  • Collaborate with school departments to enhance community connection and support for athletic programs

  • Demonstrate knowledge of interscholastic athletics and TAPPS guidelines

  • Support the spiritual, academic, and athletic growth of student-athletes
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with coaches, parents, and administration
  • Support collaboration across departments and divisions

CANDIDATE SUMMARY

We seek the following in qualified candidates:

  • A strong Christian testimony and a calling to serve as a Christian role model to students
  • A heart for mentoring and developing student-athletes
  • Bachelor�s degree required; master�s degree preferred
  • Experience in athletic leadership, coaching, or athletic administration
  • Knowledge of TAPPS or interscholastic athletic structures
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in team environments
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships with students, parents, and faculty
  • Commitment to excellence and continuous improvement
