Description

Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to improving mental health in our community through advocacy, education, program development, and the delivery of direct services. 


The Veterans Peer Facilitator will conduct veteran peer support groups in various locations in Nassau County. Bring documentation from NCOMHCDDDS to Nassau County mental health programs.  In addition to transporting documents, courier transports individuals while utilizing personal experience and peer specialist training to assist others in their recovery from psychiatric illness.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the transportation of written materials, packages, booklets, mail, etc. from agency to agency some of which are of confidential nature.
  • Conduct Peer Support Groups in various locations in Nassau County.
  • Conduct public speaking at veterans groups and other social service organizations to publicize services.
  • Operate in a mobile capacity to engage with veteran’s when needed
  • Interact individually with veteran’s to recommend referrals to other benefits and services. 
  • Respond to urgent situations as needed.
  • Conduct documentation as required. 
  • Complete training as required.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
  • Responsible for the commuting of written materials, packages, booklets, etc. from agency to agency, some of which is of a confidential nature.
  • Communicates and organizes pick-ups from agency designees with regard to courier materials.
  • Transports clients to and from appointments.
  • Travel train clients.
  • Organization and flexibility to respond to the changes and additions to courier activities.
  • Reports on whereabouts to clerical staff.
  • Stays in contact with supervisor re: whereabouts.

Requirements


Education: High School degree required. Bachelors Degree / Masters Degree preferred.


Experience

  • Clean NY State Driver’s License required.
  • Must be a Veteran.
  • Lived experience with trauma and recovery preferred.
  • Prior mental health experience a plus.

Skills/ Ability

  • Clean NYS Driver’s License, must have own transportation.
  • Microsoft Word, Outlook, Internet, Data entry. Must have home computer and internet access.
  • Must have own cell phone. Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
