The Surgical Technologist is responsible for supporting safe and efficient surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile environment, and assisting the surgical team. In a small critical access hospital, this role requires flexibility, independence, and the ability to support a variety of surgical cases with limited staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain the sterile field, ensuring all instruments and supplies are properly sterilized and available
- Set up operating rooms according to procedure requirements
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and anticipating needs
- Position patients and assist with surgical draping
- Operate and troubleshoot basic surgical equipment
- Perform instrument counts and ensure compliance with safety protocols
- Clean and restock operating rooms following procedures
- Assist with inventory management and supply ordering
- Support additional clinical duties as needed in a small hospital setting
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred
- Certification (e.g., CST) preferred or required per facility policy
- Knowledge of sterile technique and surgical procedures
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
